This study of 22,570 women and 20,126 men, aged 50 to 64 investigated the association between intake from different foods and the subsequent 5-year difference in waist circumference.
Halkjaer found that after 5 years:
(a) Diets high in red meat were associated with smaller waist circumference
(b) Diets high in butter and high-fat dairy products were associated with smaller waist circumference in both sexes.
(c) Diets high in snack foods and potatoes were associated with larger waist circumference.
