The raison d'etre of this website is to provide you with hard scientific information which may help you make informed decisions in your quest for health (so far I have blogged concise summaries of over 1,500 scientific studies and have had three books published).

My research is mainly focused on the effects of cholesterol, saturated fat and statin drugs on health. If you know anyone who is worried about their cholesterol levels and heart disease, or has been told to take statin drugs you could send them a link to this website, and to my statin or cholesterol or heart disease books.

Dr. Katharine Morrison the principle GP of Ballochmyle Medical Group in Scotland notes that there is an increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes, and that the present methods of prevention are not succeeding in reducing the number of people affected.

Dr. Morrison says there is an effective low cost strategy, backed up by rigorous scientific research that may alleviate diabetes: namely reduce the amount of sugar and starch in the diet.

After Dr.Morrison's son became diabetic, she has successfully managed his diabetes with a restricted carbohydrate diet.

She found that the restricted carbohydrate diet has many benefits for diabetics, such as:
(a) After 3 months diabetics experience a 2-3% drop in their HbA1C levels.
(b) The lower the carbohydrate consumed, the less insulin is needed by type 1 diabetics.
(c) The lower the carbohydrate consumed, the less hard the pancreas has to work for type 2 diabetics.
(d) It promotes a healthy weight.
(e) It promotes high levels of the beneficial high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.
(f) It reduces the levels of harmful triglycerides.
(g) It optimises blood sugar control.

Dr. Morrison concludes by asking the question; "How long can we as a profession afford to keep our heads in the sand regarding the benefits of low carb diets for diabetics?"
