The raison d'etre of this website is to provide you with hard scientific information which may help you make informed decisions in your quest for health (so far I have blogged concise summaries of over 1,500 scientific studies and have had three books published).

My research is mainly focused on the effects of cholesterol, saturated fat and statin drugs on health. If you know anyone who is worried about their cholesterol levels and heart disease, or has been told to take statin drugs you could send them a link to this website, and to my statin or cholesterol or heart disease books.

Children exposed to fluoride have lower IQ and higher dental fluorosis

This post includes a summary of a study published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials 2010 Dec 25 and a recipe for grilled picante chicken.

Study title and authors:
The relationships between low levels of urine fluoride on children's intelligence, dental fluorosis in endemic fluorosis areas in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia, China.
The Case Against Fluoride: How Hazardous Waste Ended Up in Our Drinking Water and the Bad Science and Powerful Politics That Keep It There

This study can be accessed at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21237562

The study suggested that even low levels of fluoride exposure in drinking water had negative effects on children's intelligence and dental health.

The higher the exposure to fluoride - the lower the IQ and the worse the dental fluorosis.

Marinate chicken in picante sauce for about 5 hours in the refrigerator (or longer if desired). Place on grill when hot enough. The Intelligence Quotient (IQ) was measured in 512 children, aged 8–13 years, living in two villages in Sihong County, Jiangsu Province, China, differing in the level of fluoride in their drinking water.

In the highfluoride village of Wamiao the mean IQ of 222 children was significantly lower than in the low-fluoride village of Xinhuai where the mean IQ of 290 children was higher.

Higher drinking water fluoride levels were significantly associated with higher rates of mental retardation.

To quote the author: "The results show that a high fluoride intake has a clear influence on the IQ of preschool children, manifesting itself primarily as damage to performance intelligence. The study also indicates that the proportion of preschool children living in the high fluoride area that have retarded head development (based on measurement of the circumference) is significantly greater than in the low fluoride control group, and that children with this developmental deficiency demonstrate a lower IQ than children with normal head development".

◦1/4 c + 1/2 c almond flour
◦1/2 c dessicated coconut

In a bowl combine 1/4 c almond flour, 1/2 c dessicated coconut and some S&P. Mix it around with your hands. In a separate bowl, combine the ground chicken, 1/2 c almond flour, onion & garlic powders, egg yolk and some S&P. Mix it with your hands until everything has been incorporated.

In a saute pan, melt the coconut oil on medium heat.

Take about 2 tablespoons worth of the chicken mixture and in the palm of your left hand, roll it into a ball. Drop it into the almond/coconut mixture and roll the chicken ball around with the fingers on your left hand. Make sure it’s completely coated. Repeat with the rest of the chicken. Place in the saute pan and cook on each side until nice and brown. I did 3 batches for 1 pound of chicken.

Recipe of the day

Spaghetti Squash Carbonara

Ingredients:
Hickory Smoked Breakfast Bacon
Food Mall: Bacon
◦1 spaghetti squash
◦1 lb. bacon
◦1 yellow onion, chopped
◦4 gloves garlic, minced
◦2 handfuls of walnuts, roughly chopped
◦Red Pepper flakes or black pepper, to taste

Method:
Heat the oven to 400ºF. Cut the squash in half and pick out all the seeds. Don’t be anal about getting out the stringy stuff, you can’t even tell it’s there once the squash has roasted. Lightly coat the inside of the squash with some oil and place cut side down, on a baking sheet, in the oven for 20 minutes. Flip each half over, and roast for another 20 minutes–0r until the squash is easily shredded with a fork and add it to your serving bowl.

While the squash is roasting, start the sauce. With the bacon placed horizontally on your cutting board, cut the strips into 1/2″ pieces. Don’t worry about separating the strips, just cut away. Add the bacon pieces to a saute pan that’s on medium heat. Cook the bacon until it’s browned and add to your serving bowl. Remove 3/4 of the bacon grease and reserve for another use. Place the onion and garlic in the pan and cook until translucent. Add them to your serving bowl. Toss the walnuts into the pan and toast until slightly brown. Add them to the serving bowl. Add pepper and grated Parmesan cheese to taste.
